The Australian investment unit of a Dubai-based company has announced plans for a waterpark as part of its AUS$400 million ($297.3 million) “active lifestyle” destination project on the Sunshine Coast.

Sanad Capital, part of Dubai conglomerate Najibi Group, unveiled its partnership with WhiteWater to build the waterpark which will be Australia’s biggest wave pool generating waves nine feet high.

Once built, it will also be the world’s largest interactive aqua play structure, accommodating 2,000 people at any one time and will boast the first slide-boarding area in the region, an innovation which brings video-game interactivity to waterslides.

WhiteWater has been responsible for some of the world’s biggest water projects to date such as China’s Yinji Xinmi, the Atlantis Resort and Wild Wadi Water Park in Dubai and Vana Nava in Thailand. More info
